# BOB — Build on Bitcoin

> BOB is a hybrid Layer 2 blockchain that combines Bitcoin's security with Ethereum-compatible smart contracts. It enables native Bitcoin DeFi: bridge, swap, stake, and earn yield — all backed by Bitcoin finality. Accessible at https://app.gobob.xyz/.

BOB is operated by the BOB Foundation. The app is available in 11 languages: English (`/en/`), Chinese (`/zh/`), Russian (`/ru/`), Korean (`/ko/`), Arabic (`/ar/`), French (`/fr/`), Hindi (`/hi/`), Japanese (`/ja/`), Portuguese (`/pt/`), Spanish (`/es/`), Turkish (`/tr/`). English (`/en/`) is the default locale, and every other locale uses its own localized URLs under the matching prefix.

## Key Concepts

- **BOB Gateway**: An intent-based bridge protocol for native BTC. Supports onramp (BTC → EVM tokens), offramp (EVM tokens → BTC), and TokenSwap (EVM cross-chain via LayerZero or Bungee routes).
- **Hybrid Chain**: BOB's core architecture — Bitcoin PoW finality combined with an EVM-compatible execution environment.
- **BitVM Bridge**: The trustless, non-custodial BTC bridge on BOB, secured by Hybrid Node operators using BitVM proofs.
- **$BOB Token**: BOB's native governance and staking token. Used for staking, Hybrid Node delegation, and governance voting.
- **Hybrid Nodes**: Institutional node operators that validate BTC finality and secure the BitVM bridge. Users delegate $BOB to node operators.
